I don’t put myself forward as the world’s leading expert on Holleys, but I do have some helpful ideas. In some cases, I may not be able to answer specific questions, but I’ll do my best. I know very little about other brands of carburetors and have no information about them, only general operating principles. I have NO experience with any type of supercharger or turbocharger, so please don’t ask me anything about your blower or turbo applications. The following few paragraphs is a set of rules I had to create because people were emailing me without enough information or asking really stupid questions that I had no way to answer.

Three different types of numbering systems are found on Carter produced carburetors. Thus in the example C5VF-A, the carburetor would have been the first application for Lincoln in the year It is extremely doubtful that any of the single, double, or early triple digit tags will appear; as they were produced before and were constructed of red cardboard. The metal tag appeared about with tag numbers of about s. The 4 digit tag appeared in , and was continued on until the end.

Soooo, CLH8, you have a Chevy 2 bolt main engine with a Quadrajet 4bbl carburetor going on. The engine was made for gas mileage for passenger cars mainly, just a step up from the engine.

All pullers must be in the staging area when their class starts 2. A competitor will have a maximum of three 3 minutes to report to the starting line after the sled is ready 3. All pulls must start with a tight chain 4. All pulls must start with the sled and pulling vehicle inside the boundary lines 5. All pulling vehicles will come into the competition area under their own power.

The test puller will have the option of accepting the pull or coming back 6th spot from when sled is set. The test puller to hook to the sled in a class will be considered the test puller and have the following options: B] Drop the pull and pull again immediately C] Drop the pull and come back in sixth or last position D] Any puller following a sled adjustment at the start of a pulling class be considered a test puller 4.

In a squarebore, the bores are closer to the same size, though, in some squarebore carbs, like cfm Holleys, the primaries may be noticeably smaller than the secondaries. However, even then the bores share the same centerline. Many aftermarket intakes, such as mine, and the Edelbrock Performer and RPM, etc, are “dual pattern” intakes the area where the carb bolts on looks like a butterfly. Either a squarebore OR spreadbore can be physically be mounted on them with no adaptors.

Carter Thermoquads, Rochester Quadrajets, and Holley ‘s, ‘s, and ‘s are spreadbores. If the intakes are true squarebore intakes four individual holes or true spreadbore intakes again, four individual holes, though of different size , you cannot really bolt a squarebore carb on a spreadbore intake and vise versa.

This car’s engine has been much maligned and its muscular styling still conjures up bad memories of gold chains and exposed chest hair, a last gasp of disco-era glory.

The 9 cap is available at your local GM dealer. Ask for AC Delco type RC32 part and a 10 cap is available at most autoparts store under a Stant part number , if they don’t have it, have them order it for you. The lower pressure rated caps are not carried by the store much but they are available. Wright One item that makes the radiator leak is using the wrong Pressure Cap. Should be 9 pounds no greater than 10 pounds. Therefore I use a 7 pound cap for many years.

Also your coach is running much Many fan clutches do not work properly

The s had a power boost for the 5. The most radical changes were made in the name of safety, Dodge switched to lower-force driver and passenger airbags the passenger one could be deactivated , changed its driver controls and audio systems, and added adjustable seat-belt loops. The next part was harder: To avoid crashes in the first place, they went to bigger brakes, a better suspension, and stronger, stiffer body. The changes to the front of the van also improved walk-through access and updated the styling.

These MSD Atomic EFI fuel injection systems are the perfect choice for anyone planning on converting from carburetor to fuel injection. They include a throttle body, power module (with wideband oxygen sensor), and handheld controller. The throttle body features an integral ECU built on .

That individuality combined with corporate policies limiting maximum displacement for different body styles to produce a multitude of different engines of very similar capacities and outputs. By , for instance, Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac each offered a cu. While Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Buick each had distinct small-block and big-block V8 engine lines, Pontiac really had only one.

It had certain features in common with the contemporary small-block Chevy, such as rocker arms pivoting on studded ball joints rather than rocker shafts a feature that had actually been developed by Pontiac engineers and shared with Chevrolet , but it had some significant internal differences. It was also somewhat bigger and heavier than the Chevrolet engine, with greater growth potential. Grow the Strato-Streak did — from cubic inches 4, cc in to cu.

Over the years, it was offered in a bewildering number of states of tune. In highly tuned cu.

FiTech Throttle Body Go EFI 4 Installed in Project Trans Am

It used to be thought that adding EFI to a classic, carbureted vehicle, required a degree in rocket science. But now, many manufacturers have jumped head-first into the realm of developing an EFI system that does not require a laptop — or the aforementioned degree. The Quadrajet has been on the Cheyenne since it left the factory. I am told there is a hotter, eight-injector system being developed by Holley, but a release date has not been announced. Since I really have no background in EFI tuning — and even less knowledge of computer programming, if I was going to take this leap, I needed it to be simple.

Sure, I can handle the mechanical aspect of an install:

It fit my factory GM QuadraJet intake to allow me to install an Edelbrock cfm carb. All gaskets and mounting hardware was included. It was drilled and tapped for a vacuum hook up but the hole was not drilled all the way through, so it would not be useful.

The rebuild never seems to last and some of the areas like leaking around linkage and dry gaskets are often not fixable. They are too complicated, too hard to adjust, and in a difficult place to work on. I have a new engine, is the old carb still correct for the heavy breather? With a closed loop control, this should be adjusted automatically.

I think basically, I hate carburetors. These are the parts to be added. Need to get under the wheel wells and do some work so it is suggested to raise the front of the coach. I feel safer with it up on blocks and this was enough height. This picture shows that it is necessary to put a block or stand under the rear of the GMC when ever you are under the rear.

There is nothing lower than a GMC if an air line or bag breaks.

In trying to get the headlight door motors, I ended up taking out the whole damn front end – grill, bumper, etc. There was just no easy way to get to the door motors. I probably removed 50 bolts out of the front of the thing. Eventually I had half the car in the back of the truck just to get a couple pieces of trim and the headlight door motors, but there’s nothing wrong with a few spare parts. I have heard since then that if you remove the horn it’s easy to pull the motors right out the top, though the shop manual says you can pull them out the bottom, which is impossible.

June the work began. Nathan pulled the non-original wheels off and found that they were dragging on the brake calipers because they were too shallow – good thing nobody tried to drive it! The brakes were shot, even before the wheels scraped across them, and had to be replaced – everything from the rotors to calipers to shoes. Since the rotors were a one-year-only item for ’69 they were tough to find.

We finally gave up and went with the ’70 rotors and got the few other parts that were different that year. The master cylinder had to be replaced too. Nathan also found some Continental wheels to use until I could get the right wheels and wheelcovers. The driver’s window had to be re-glued to the track. Apparently the models don’t use the rubber bolts they used in previous and later years to hold the glass to the track.

The 2-speed Jetaway trans used behind the V-8 [not the L6] in the models also utilized a switch pitch torque converter. For a transmission built during these three years, you can identify the transmission as having the switch pitch parts by the electrical connector on the side of the trans case. A run-of-the-mill TH will have a single spade terminal protruding from the case to activate the kickdown solenoid valve.

A switch pitch aka variable vane trans will have two terminals one for kickdown, one for vane angle. The TCS is wired to a pressure switch connected to the accumulator piston area, that allows full vacuum to the distributor only when the car is in third gear when the engine is cold. There probably is two wires coming from the thermostatic vacuum switch on the front of the manifold.

Installation of ZZ4 Crate Engine in C3 Corvette After 30 years and 75, miles, my original L engine was still very dependable and running solid. I also wanted to keep my numbers matching engine so that the car can be restored back to original at some point. After many hours of research, I decided to purchase a new ZZ4 crate engine from GM with specs as follows: GM part number – ZZ4 Crate Engine, Generation I long block, includes 4 bolt main caps, nodular cast iron crank with one piece rear seal, Passenger side dipstick and center bolt valve covers.

Preparing the ZZ4 engine for installation in a C3 is not a major deal but there are some things of which you need to be aware and I will discuss these in this documentary. One of the things that you will want to know is ‘what parts from my old engine will fit on the new one? The ZZ4 comes with a long water pump which of course is not correct for a C3. The timing cover on the ZZ4 is a composite material and one of the bolts retaining it must have the head ground down to clear the back of your original pump.

In my case, I did some research on water pumps and I found out that Edelbrock make an aluminum pump for the ZZ4 application in C3 Corvettes. It is the Victor series with part number It also has the correct shaft diameter for your clutch fan and the indentation to clear the problem bolt on the timing cover.

Carburetor Tuning the Scientific Way or How to Tune Your Holley Carburetor and Other Fuelish Ramblings By ASE Certified Master Auto Mechanic, Engineer, and Inventor, Gerard Forgnone.

Please follow the post completely for details of the process. Throttle response is not delayed, I expected it to have a delay like most modern fuel injection cars do. Throttle response is as instant as a carburetor. No more high to low engine rev at startup, it starts and stays right at rpm. Best part is, I can change this with the handheld controller.

Engine has never ran this consistently cool before. I have a thermostat, usually my car would get as hot as It now stays between So far so good! Now with the process of installing… W72 shaker air cleaner clearance The first thing I did when I got home was test the FiTech with my 78 shaker air cleaner. As you can see in the pictures I did not undo the wiring around the throttle body until after the test fit. Luckily it clears, but just. This test was without a gasket between the throttle body and air cleaner, which has given me a touch more space since I took these pictures.
